SPARTAN NEWSLETTER
November 22, 2024
Good afternoon, Spartan Families!
There will be no school next week as we take time to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope all of our Spartan families enjoy this opportunity to spend time with loved ones, relax, and recharge.

A big thank you to everyone who made the Robotics Annual Dinner Auction Fundraiser such a success! It takes well over $100k each year to keep our FIRST 3512 Spartatroniks program running, and events like this go a long way in making it possible for our students to thrive in such an outstanding program. Your support is deeply appreciated.

Our football team wrapped up an incredible season with a tough game in Mammoth last week. Playing in snow and high altitude is no easy feat, but the team showed their grit. Congratulations to the players and coaches on a successful season.

The first play performed in our new gymnasium, The Adams Family, was a huge success! A big shoutout to Michael Shaw, Katie Sullivan, and the amazing team of students who brought this production to life. Their hard work and talent shone brightly, and it was wonderful to see the new space used for such an incredible performance.

Finally, we are proud to share that our recent WASC visit was a success. The WASC team highlighted the many great things happening at Orcutt Academy and provided valuable feedback on how we can continue to grow and improve. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this process and for helping us make our school an even better place for our students.

ASB SPOTLIGHT
This week’s Senior Spotlight is Logan Gentry! He has been in Robotics since freshman year, he was an exchange student in Germany, he has a 4.62 GPA, and he is president of Surf Club. Way to go, Logan!!
Ms. Willis is OA’s English 9, English 12, and Concurrent Enrollment English teacher this year, and she has an amazing tale to tell about her college years! She attended UC Berkeley where she received two bachelor’s degrees in addition to a master’s degree in French curriculum studies, specifically focusing on genocide and torture narratives (wow!). She then got her master’s in teaching from a small university in Oregon. Ms. Willis’s incredible journey and expertise make her a true inspiration at OA 👏📚

Spartan Code Highlight: Volunteer Meaningfully in the Community & Exceed the Service Requirement
We know we’ve been highlighting the service requirement a lot lately, but with Thanksgiving next week, it’s the perfect time to focus on giving back! Volunteering is a cornerstone of our Spartan community, and there are countless ways for students to make a difference right here in our local area. YouthWell, a Santa Barbara-based organization, offers fantastic resources with a variety of local volunteer opportunities tailored to young people. Visit youthwell.org/volunteer-opportunities to explore ways to give back and exceed the 40-hour service requirement. Let’s show how Spartans lead with service this season!
