SPARTAN NEWSLETTER

September 26, 2025

Good Evening Spartan Families,

This past week, we highlighted Suicide Prevention Month with the help of our community partners. Knowing You Matter, YouthWell, Casa Pacifica, and the Access Line joined us at lunch with resources, encouragement, and reminders that every student matters and no one is alone. We’re grateful for their support of our Spartan Family.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Today, Spartans were encouraged to wear gold in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

I also shared my personal connection to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation in a video message below. In it, I share the reminder of the impact this organization has on families facing unimaginable challenges.
Our school is proud to support the fight against childhood cancer by sharing a donation link to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation. This foundation works to provide funding, research, patient support, and hope for families affected by cancer.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you would like to help and join us in supporting this cause, please click the link:

Together, we can help to create a brighter and healthier future.

Busy Weekend Coming Up!

We have a full weekend of Spartan activity ahead! Tonight, PTSA is hosting an event (see more details below in the newsletter). Tomorrow, our students will take part in the Chalk Festival, with many showcasing their talents and the band performing live. To top it off, we’ll host a home football game at 1:00 PM at PVHS vs. Cate—we hope to see you there cheering on the Spartans!

ASB Updates

This week’s Senior Spotlight is Seamus Gault!

He has been on Varsity Volleyball all four years, serving as a captain for one year. He also competed in Varsity Soccer for two years and Varsity Track for one year. On top of that, Seamus has been in Band all four years and served as Drum Major for one year.
He has earned the Scholar Athlete Award all four years and holds an impressive 4.25 GPA.

Congratulations, Seamus!

Please welcome this week’s Teacher Spotlight, Ms. Coburn!

Ms. Coburn is the Band Director at OAHS, leading students in marching band, concert band, and jazz band. Her groups perform in parades, football games, and competitions—including their annual trip to Los Angeles, where they compete and celebrate with a day at Knott’s Berry Farm.

At football games, the band’s role is clear: support the team, pump up the fans, and bring energy to the stands. From the pregame tunnel to halftime performances, the band is at the heart of Spartan spirit.

For Ms. Coburn, band is more than music—it’s a family. Students not only learn musicianship and marching techniques, but also gain experiences and friendships that last a lifetime.

We are so grateful for all Mrs. Coburn brings to OAHS!
