SPARTAN NEWSLETTER

September 5, 2025

A Note from Mr. Carter

Spartans, we’re hitting our stride.

As we settle into the rhythm of the year, it’s a good time to check in — academically, socially, and emotionally. Whether you're flying high or feeling the pressure, the most important thing we can do is ask for help when we need it. That’s a key part of our Spartan Code, and it makes a difference.

Let’s stay connected and support one another as we head toward our first academic milestone of the year.

Progress Grades Finalized Friday, 9/12

Next week marks the end of our first grading period. These progress grades impact eligibility for sports, clubs, and activities — and give you a snapshot of how you’re doing so far. Students need to maintain a 2.0 ("C" average) in all classes in order to maintain eligibility.

Encourage your student to:
  • Check Aeries
  • Reach out to teachers
  • Turn in missing work
  • Use SPIN or tutoring if available

Save the Date: Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thursday, 9/18, 5-7 PM

Conferences are a chance to check in, ask questions, and work together. Teachers will be sending out appointment details next Friday evening, but for now — please mark your calendar.

Know You’ll Be Out? Request Independent Study

If your student has a planned absence of 2 or more days, we can provide short-term independent study work.
NOTE: Requests must be submitted at least 5 school days in advance.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and we want every student to know:
You are not alone.
If you or someone you know needs support:
  • Talk to a trusted adult
  • Use our Campus Supports page
  • Reach out to the counseling team
Let’s look out for each other — it’s what Spartans do.

ASB Updates

This week’s Senior Spotlight is Sarah Rogers!

She has been on Varsity Volleyball for three years, serving as captain for two and earning the title of MVP. She also competed in Varsity Track for one year and was the first in a long time to break the school triple jump record. Sarah has managed both the boys and girls volleyball teams, and during the 2023–2024 season, she was recognized as the MaxPreps Volleyball Player of the Year. A true scholar athlete, she holds an impressive 4.43 GPA.

Congratulations, Sarah!!

Please welcome this week’s Teacher Spotlight, Mrs. Brady!

This year, Mrs. Brady is teaching Algebra II and also serves as a Freshman Connect Crew (FCC) Advisor. She attended Fresno Pacific University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and her teaching credential.
Her favorite memory at OA so far was this year’s FCC overnight, where the group planned out their year, surprised Mr. Fredericks with a flash mob, and wrapped up the night with glow-in-the-dark dodgeball in the gym.
Her advice to students? Try something new, and don’t be afraid to be a beginner at something.
