Spotlight on the OAHS Band!

The OAHS Band, under the direction of Ms. Josie Coburn, had an incredible weekend of music and spirit. On Saturday, students performed at the OCAF Chalk Festival, sharing their talents with the community while supporting the arts in our local schools. Later that day, the marching band was in full force at our home football game, bringing energy to the stands and rallying Spartan pride.

On Sunday, the band, along with the color guard and dance team, represented OAHS in the Los Alamos Old Days Parade, where they were honored as the “Best Performance Group.” The jazz band capped off the weekend with a concert in the park at the Los Alamos Old Days Festival.

At OAHS, band is more than music—it’s about family, school spirit, and connecting with the community. We are so proud of our students for the way they represent our school and grateful for Ms. Coburn’s leadership in making the program such an important part of the Spartan Family.

PSAT Testing – Tuesday, October 7

On Tuesday, October 7, all students in grades 9–11 will participate in the PSAT, and the day will run on a minimum day schedule.

We want to remind families why this test matters: the PSAT is more than just practice for the SAT. It helps students identify strengths, shows areas for growth, and opens the door to scholarships and academic recognition. It also gives us, as a school, valuable information about how we can better support student learning.

Our seniors will follow a special schedule that day, participating in a series of important presentations to help them prepare for life after high school.

We ask parents to please avoid pulling students from school during testing time, as interruptions can negatively impact both the student and the testing environment.

We are proud to provide this opportunity to all of our students at no cost, and we are grateful for the chance to invest in their futures in such a meaningful way.

ASB Updates

This week’s Senior Spotlight is Ashley Han!

Ashley has been a leader in the ASB program all four years, serving as Secretary last year and now as our ASB President. She has also been involved in dance all four years, where she is currently the team captain. In addition, Ashley is president of multiple clubs, including CSF, FIND, and CLA.

Her accomplishments extend even further—she was a Girls State Delegate, has earned Spartan Achievement Awards in 9th Grade English Honors and AP Environmental Science, and currently serves as an NHS officer. With an outstanding 4.73 GPA, Ashley continues to set an incredible example of scholarship and leadership.

Congratulations, Ashley!

Fall Sports Rally

Last Thursday, we celebrated our fall athletes with a Santa Maria–style BBQ, served to more than 150 student-athletes. A huge thank you to our kitchen staff, under the direction of Christy Wineman, for preparing such a great meal for our teams.

We also want to thank our ASB students for coordinating the event and leading a fun lunchtime activity to honor our athletes. Their energy and leadership helped make the celebration even more special.

We are proud of the hard work and dedication our athletes are showing across all fall sports. Be sure to follow the athletic calendar and come out to support the Spartans as their seasons continue!
