SPARTAN NEWSLETTER
November 15, 2024
Good afternoon, Spartan Families!
First off, I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Boosters' Auction last weekend. It was a fantastic event, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our Boosters, especially our Booster President, Adrian Duncan, who put in countless hours behind the scenes. We also want to express our appreciation to teachers Michael Shaw and Katie Sullivan for an outstanding opening weekend of the OATA performance. Your dedication shines through, and it’s moments like these that make us proud to be Spartans.

Congratulations to our Spartan football team on an exciting win this past weekend! They’ve worked hard to make it to the CIF Quarterfinals and are traveling to Mammoth High School TODAY with kickoff at 7 PM. Let’s keep the momentum going and show our support for our team! Go Spartans!

This Saturday, November 16, don’t miss the annual Spartatroniks Dinner Auction at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $35, including a delicious BBQ half chicken dinner with sides. There will be silent, live, and dessert auctions, plus great displays from our robotics team. To get tickets, message us on Instagram @spartatroniks or reach out to a 3512 team member. Come on out and support our incredible robotics program!

Next Monday-Wednesday, we’ll be welcoming our WASC accreditation team for their visit. This is an important time for us as a school, and it’s a chance to showcase the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff. Let’s put our best foot forward and show them what makes Orcutt Academy such a special place!

CTE SPOTLIGHT: EMS 102
CERT 1
This year, almost all of our 9th-grade students at Orcutt Academy High School are participating in EMS 102, an exciting course in partnership with Allan Hancock College that offers comprehensive emergency medical training. We were able to host an amazing capstone event this week: the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) final drill.

In the simulation, students faced a scenario of a 7.1 earthquake with a tsunami warning. They broke into teams and executed a coordinated emergency response, taking on roles in communications, triage, and medical treatment. It was impressive to see our freshmen step up, applying the skills they’ve developed throughout the semester.

Through EMS 102, students earn several valuable certifications, including:
  • American Heart First Aid and CPR Certification
  • American College of Surgeons "Stop the Bleed" Certificate
  • FEMA Certificates in Introduction to CERT, Incident Command, and the final CERT certification.
A huge thank you to AHC for partnering with us on this special program, especially the lead teachers, Suz Roehl and Brian Scaley. EMS 102 is truly a unique opportunity, giving our students life-saving skills and certifications that they can carry with them into the future.
Check out the photos of our incredible freshmen in action during the final drill!

Spartan Code Highlight: Volunteer Meaningfully in the Community & Exceed the Service Requirement
A reminder to all students about the 40-hour community service requirement for graduation—these hours are more than just a requirement, they are an opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining valuable experience. We encourage all students to go beyond the minimum, just like Sam Brice, Allison Lammert, and Alonso Ramirez, who were selected to serve on County Superintendent Susan Salcido’s Student Advisory Council! Their commitment to service and leadership sets a great example for us all.

For volunteer opportunities, check X2VOL or reach out to Mrs. Meehan with any questions.
