SPARTAN NEWSLETTER
March 7, 2025
Welcome, Class of 2029!
We are excited to officially welcome the Class of 2029 to the Spartan Family!

Last Friday, our newest Spartans attended their registration event, where they were warmly greeted by our staff and Freshman Connection Crew (FCC). They had the opportunity to connect with mentors, ask questions, and select their classes for the fall. A huge thank you to all the volunteers from FCC, PTSA, Boosters, and FIRST Robotics, as well as our staff who helped make the event such a success. Your time and effort in welcoming our future Spartans did not go unnoticed!

We can't wait to see the Class of 2029 on campus in the fall and are looking forward to all they will bring to our school community!

Shoutout to Our Outdoor School Leaders!
A huge congratulations to our Outdoor School leaders for representing OAHS at Ralph Dunlap and Pine Grove’s Outdoor School! These students demonstrated leadership, responsibility, and enthusiasm while guiding younger students through an unforgettable outdoor education experience. Their dedication to mentorship and teamwork is something to be proud of—way to go, Spartans!

ASB SPOTLIGHT
This week’s Senior Spotlight is Ella Edds!
She has done 4 years of drama, over 13 years of competitive swim including 4 years of high school. She has gone to CIF every year and has been captain for 2 years.

She co-owns a small business with her sister where they teach swim lessons, is president of Interact Club the largest club at OA focusing on volunteer work and has multiple internships, mentorships at Marian hospital, and Santa Barbara Students School Board Member.

Congratulations, Ella 😎
Introducing this week’s Teacher Spotlight…Mr. Verch!
This year, Mr. Verch is OA’s 11th grade U.S. History teacher (both Concurrent Enrollment and regular classes), and he is absolutely loved by many of his students. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and graduated with a degree in history and teaching. Additionally, he played four years of college football 🏈 (wow!).

Mr. Verch is a teacher you’ll never forget, and we love your jokes!

Good job, Mr. Verch! 🎉👏

Spartan Code Highlight: Ask For Help When In Need
At OAHS, no Spartan should feel like they have to figure everything out alone. Whether you’re struggling with academics, personal challenges, or just need guidance, there are teachers, counselors, and peers ready to support you. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and it’s the first step toward finding a solution. Don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help you succeed!
